Our materials

On the BAYU website we sell products made of different materials. We will explain the most important materials for you.

DQ METAL
The abbreviation DQ stands for Designer Quality. The name DQ was created to emphasize the high European quality. DQ metal is also a nickel-free metal. This ensures that many people can wear it without it discoloring or having an allergic reaction to it. The platings of this metal are real gold and silver. Of course, this entails a price difference, but the lifespan of products with these platings is much longer.

How do I keep my DQ metal looking nice?
DQ metal stays beautiful for a very long time due to the platings of real gold and silver. However, this is different for each person. DQ metal can react to the acidity of the skin. To keep the metal beautiful for even longer, we recommend against contact with water, body lotion, disinfectant hand gel and perfume.

Silver
For every product where we use the term silver without additives (e.g. DQ silver or plated silver), this is 925 sterling silver.

925 sterling silver is made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% of another metal, usually copper. The second metal is necessary because pure silver alone is too soft and flexible. Jewelry made of pure silver alone is susceptible to scratches and breaks quickly. The copper in 925 sterling silver provides reinforcement and makes the jewelry resistant to damage. Sterling silver is therefore a high-quality material. You can recognize a jewelry made of 925 sterling silver, heavier than 8 grams, by a 925 stamp.

Silver can react to sulphur. This causes a black layer to form on the silver. This is called silver sulphide. Sulphur or forms of it are in the air and in or on your skin. If you do not like this effect on your silver jewellery, you can polish the product or put it in a silver bath. The silver jewellery will then look like new again!

Gold plated
Gold plated means that a product of another metal is dipped in liquid gold. The product is therefore not completely made of gold. This is also called gold plated or gold filled. The base material of the gold plated jewelry that we sell is 925 sterling silver.

How do I keep my gold plated jewelry beautiful?
Gold plated products can discolour when exposed to water, body lotion, disinfectant hand gel, perfume and other liquids. The liquid causes friction and wears away the gold layer. To ensure that your gold plated jewellery retains its colour, we recommend that you be careful with these liquids. Many jewellers can also re-plate your jewellery!

Stainless steel
Stainless steel, also called stainless steel (RVS), is the trend in jewelry these days. This is because stainless steel is easy to maintain. Stainless steel mainly contains iron, nickel, chrome and carbon. Stainless steel has many advantages. It is 100% allergy-free and 100% recyclable. Compared to silver, stainless steel is a strong metal, shines more and is smoother.

From a metal point of view, stainless steel is not a good name. Stainless steel can rust. It is wise not to go swimming or showering with your jewelry on because of the chlorides in the water. This can damage the chrome layer. Also take into account chemical products, such as perfume and sunscreen. If you take off your jewelry, you will enjoy it much longer and it will not discolor.

Miyuki
Miyuki is the brand name of the best quality among the rocailles. Rocailles are also called embroidery beads or seed beads. These are very small beads that are used for weaving, stringing or embroidery.
The advantage of Miyuki is the very good quality. All beads have exactly the same size, unlike other brands of seed beads, where the beads differ in size and thickness. Especially with special stringing patterns, the result is much nicer with even beads than with beads that vary in size.

How do I keep my Miyuki seed beads beautiful?
Miyuki generally remains very beautiful and does not discolour quickly. However, this varies greatly from person to person. This depends on the acidity of the skin, which is different for everyone.

Miyuki has different color types. Do you want to make a bracelet or necklace that does not discolor quickly? Then look especially at the colors with Duracoat, Ceylon, Opaque, Crystal or Fancy lined in the name. These will stay beautiful the longest. We do advise you to be careful with water, body lotion, disinfectant hand gel and perfume. This way your own Miyuki jewelry will last the longest.

Natural products
On our website we sell various natural products, including shells and gemstones. Unless otherwise stated, all natural products on our website are real, 100% gemstone or 100% shell. Each natural product has its own effect. For example, rose quartz is the gemstone of love and the abalone shell provides happiness, joy and creativity. Because they are real natural products, each product is unique and can sometimes differ slightly from the photo in terms of shape and color.

Real gemstones are natural products and therefore certainly not invulnerable. We recommend removing jewelry with gemstones when playing sports, gardening, doing housework and sleeping. After wearing for a while, gemstones in jewelry can become dull. This can be caused by skin oil, among other things. Try to clean the stone by polishing it with a damp cloth. Some shells are made of thin, fragile material. Handle them sparingly and they can last a very long time.
